Disclaimer

Plain language, because the point is that you actually read it.

Tyres are safety-critical. A tyre that is the wrong size, the wrong load index, the wrong speed rating or the wrong pressure for your motorcycle can cause a crash. Always verify size, load index, speed rating, fitment and pressures against both the tyre manufacturer's own data and your motorcycle's handbook before buying or fitting anything. Where they disagree with this site, they are right and this site is wrong.

Informational only

This site is published for general information. It is not professional, mechanical, engineering or safety advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified motorcycle technician or the manufacturer's own documentation. Nothing here creates any professional relationship between you and the site owner.

The scores are judgement, not measurement

Every grip and longevity score on this site was compiled by one rider from publicly available material — independent tests, owner reports, community threads and video reviews. Nothing was instrumented or measured under controlled conditions.

They were judged for one motorcycle in one size pair: a Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro (2021) with a 90/90-21 front and 150/70-17 rear. Applying them to a different motorcycle is an assumption, not data.

The scores may be wrong, out of date, or inapplicable to your bike, your riding, your surfaces or your climate. The Data & sources page sets out exactly what is weak about them, including the fact that the citation list behind them is not available.

Compiled on a stated date

Tyre ranges change. Compounds are revised, sizes are discontinued and new models replace old ones. The data version and build date appear in the footer of every page. Anything you read here may already be stale.

This site has no affiliation with, sponsorship from, or endorsement by any tyre manufacturer, motorcycle manufacturer or retailer. Brand and model names are used for identification only and remain the property of their owners.

No liability

You use this site and act on it entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site owner accepts no liability for any loss, injury, damage or cost arising from any riding, buying, fitting or maintenance decision made in reliance on anything published here, whether the information was accurate or not.

Not directed at children

The tyre comparison is intended for adult motorcyclists and is not directed at children.

The Polymath game, hosted separately at smid.co.za/polymath, includes a Kids mode designed for a child to play at a table together with an adult. That mode collects nothing, transmits nothing and requires no account. It does not change the position above: this site is not a children's service, and no personal information is knowingly collected from anyone of any age.
